Simple Bible Reader is as the title implies a simple peice of bible software designed to read modules from multiple bible programs including e-Sword, MySword  The Word and others. The programs is more then just a module reader ir is also a module conversion utility. The program can convert modules between various  bible software programs.

What is the difference between Simple Bible Reader and the e-Sword Module Converter?

While the e-Sword module can convert e-Sword modules from the Windows format to the Apple/Mac/Android format that is all it can do. Simple Bible Reader on  the other hand can convert e-Sword modules to Mysword, The Word, MyBible, and the other way around. Another major difference between the two converters is that unlike the e-Sword converter, Simple Bible Reader can do batch conversions of multiple modules at one  time

Simple Bible Reader can read and convert four basic types of modules: Bibles, Commentaries, Dictionaries and Books or Topic modules below is complete list of the modules that Simple Bible Reader can read and convert: The program can also be used as it's own bible study tool

Currently trying out Simple Bible Reader 5,1 with DotNet 4.8 on a Windows 7 32-bit laptop, Current setting is UTF-8 for both SBR 5.1 and e-Sword 11.2.2.
I can open a french bible and view the french characters successfully in SBR; however, on exporting I obtain the following in e-Sword 11.2.2:
Au commencement DIEU cr\u233?a les cieux et la terre.

I contacted trumpet-call and they gave me some suggestions, "disable background cleaning and/or enable convert rtf to html before opening bible to be converted"; did not work, am trying different settings.

...........

Anyone here run into same problem and  found a solution; would appreciate it.

It would help to have the actual file and what export you are attempting.

Actually, it goes back a couple of years ago when you converted fremrtn.ont to fremrtn.bbli for me because the french characters would display correctly in Bible tab but not in Parallel tab. I thought the issue was Linux at that time; but now, I have use of Windows 7 but same problem.

There is no urgency here since I do not need to convert another french module; I was just curious as to why SBR 5.1 had difficulties with french characters.

If you are able to open the .bbli file in an SQlite browser, check to see that the version, in the details tab is set to 4, as this indicates to e-Sword it contains html markup. SBR does not appear to be setting this correctly. Most people will mistakenly assume the version means the module version.

Also in Windows 7 you might still have to have the language and regional settings changed. I forget how exactly as it is a while since I had Windows 7. It might have been language pack installation. I would have to check.

It appears to be a SBR issue. Best way forward is to make as .bblx and convert to .bbli

I agree SBR is the issue; I think I found a work around using Sqlite3 in the terminal instead of DB Browser front end.

I set up about 30 queries to replace all occurrences of \u___ with the corresponding french character, about 30 of them. I then save them in a text file; and .read the text file. I was on Linux; the result looked promising, did not find any omissions; later I will try it out on Windows 7.

Also worked on Win 7 with Sqlite3.

$ sqlite3 Db.db

$ .tables

$ .echo on

$ .read Text.txt

$ select * from Tablename;

All 30 queries processed one at a time.
