I just downloaded and installed e-Sword Version 13 on a Windows 10 machine and discovered it does not start. When the icon is clicked on nothing happens. Because of a similar problem with version 12.x in the past I copied the entire e-Sword folder before installing the new version and was able to restore version 12.2. Anyone else having similar problems?

I love e-Sword and have used it almost daily for many years and always look forward to the newer versions. But these recent problems have made me cautious, which is why I backed up my previous version before installing version 13. Otherwise I would be without e-Sword until a fix is uploaded.

I hope I'm the only one with this issue, but afraid I'm not . . .

Just another side comment: When I downloaded the version 13 .exe file in MS Edge it gave out a warning that this file could damage my computer and stopped the download. (I had to manually bypass that.) Also, when I ran the setup file Windows stopped the installation with a similar warning I had to manually bypass. I had the same experience with version 12.x, but never did with previous versions. There seems to be something in the setup file that Windows 10 sees as suspicious. Anyone hear anything from Rick on this?

The file is very recent so it is possible that you downloaded it at the moment that it was busy to upload.
Or that the virus checker interrupted the download.

Do a CRC32 check to check if the file is corrupted

e-sword_1300_setup.exe is 93FEB31F (and 58.363 kb).
If the number is not 93FEB31F then is the download corrupted.

I use "CCCP Insugent" in "Tools" for the CRC check.

Downloaded the installation file again and got this message from browser: "This file was blocked because it might harm your device." Did a manual override and downloaded.

Did the CRC32 check and it was good: 93FEB31F (File size: 56,762,692 bytes)

Renewed installation brought this warning: "Microsoft Defender Smart Screen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk." Did a manual override and installed.

Clicked on e-Sword icon: nothing.

First do a complete uninstall of e-Sword 13 from your PC, then download the installer again if possible using a different browser such as Google Chrome. If do not have a second browser then temporarily turn off your antivirus software, and download the installer again. Once the download is complete turn your antivirus software back on

I have the same warning in"Microsoft Defender Smart Screen" because the file is very recent and not tested by Microsoft.

So click on "Run anyway" and install it.

e-sword-1300-download Please refer to https://www.e-sword.net/faq.html for answer to the question "I JUST INSTALLED E-SWORD 13 AND IT WILL NOT START!" After the e-sword_1300_setup.exe was downloaded, the security on Windows 10 20H2 reported "e-sword_1300_setup.exe was blocked because it could harm your device. Options were "Delete", "Keep", "Report this file as safe", and "Learn more". On other files of known file type, the options would be "Open", "Always open files of this type", "Show in folder", "Copy download link", "Report this file as unsafe", "Delete file", and "Cancel". > Instructions: Read the instructions, and follow the steps sequentially. Because this is a new file, which has not previously been reported to Microsoft, and is unknown to the latest security downloaded to your PC, my PC gave me a warning: "This app might harm your device". Further details. "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen reported that this app is not commonly downloaded; you should only open files you trust. Name: e-sword_1300_setup.exe Publisher: Unknown." > There are three Options: "Keep anyway", "Report this app as safe", and "Learn more". > Request: Contact Josh Bond and request that he will please advise Rick Meyers how to add information to the setup file, so that the Publisher will not be "Unknown". > Check: The www.e-Sword.net website is secured by www.alphassl.com with a SSL SECURE SITE AlphaSSL Certificate which has valid dates 21/06/2020-27/07/2021. These dates are not in the YYYY-MM-DD format, but you must read and decode the date in the order DD/MM/YYYY. So the problem is not that Rick Meyer's website is not secure. > Check: at https://lookup.icann.org/lookup the domain www.e-sword.com the Domain Information is registered, Registry Expiration: 2021-12-30 01:51:29 UTC. So there is no problem that Rick Meyer's website is not registered. The problem is that somehow the setup file did not report the name of the company so that Microsoft security could recognize the company name. > Step to perform: Select the "Keep anyway" option. > Request: For us to do, at our convenience: select "Report this app as safe" and report this as safe to Microsoft. > The options now are: "Open", "Show in folder", "Copy download link", "Report this file as unsafe", and "Delete file". > Step to perform: Double left-click on the setup file. PC Security pop-up "Windows Protected your PC. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk. More info." > Step to perform: click on "More info" and continue reading. Details supplied: Application: e-sword_1300_setup.exe Publisher: Unknown publisher. Two options "Run anyway", "Don't run". Select the option "Run anyway", and left-click with pointer on the "Run anyway" button. > My PC responded with a User Account Control pop-up warning, with question: "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?" e-sword_1300_setup.exe Publisher: Unknown File origin: Hard drive on this computer. Option to "Show more details". Select the option to Show more details: Program location: "C:\Users\user\Downloads\e-sword_1300_setup.exe > Option: Change when these notifications appear. Reference: https://www.bing.com...HelpPane-BingIA About User Account Control settings. Move the slider to select how much you want User Account Control to protect you from potentially harmful changes. > There are four options. Here is a list of the options, and more information about each option: (1) Always notify; (2) Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer; (3) Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop); (4) Never notify (Disable UAC). NOTE: I had set my PC to the highest priority. > Option (1). Always notify will: Notify you when programs try to install software or make changes to your computer. Notify you when you make changes to Windows settings. Freeze other tasks until you respond. Note: This option is recommended if you routinely install new software or visit unfamiliar websites. > NOTE: Please read the following options, also, to read about the other options. > Option (2). Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer. Notify you when programs try to install software or make changes to your computer. Not notify you when you make changes to Windows settings. Freeze other tasks until you respond. Note: This option is recommended if you routinely install new software or visit unfamiliar websites, but you don't want to be notified when you make changes to Windows settings. > Option (3). Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop). Notify you when programs try to install software or make changes to your computer. Not notify you when you make changes to Windows settings. Not freeze other tasks or wait for a response. Note: This option is only recommended if it takes a long time to dim the desktop on your computer. Otherwise, it's recommended to choose one of the options above. > Option (4). Never notify (Disable UAC) will: Not notify you when programs try to install software or make changes to your computer. Not notify you when you make changes to Windows settings. Not freeze other tasks or wait for a response. Note: This option isn't recommended due to security concerns. > If you need additional help, ask the Microsoft community. > NOTE: If you do not respond timeously, this warning will time-out, and you will be returned to the download folder from where you had selected the setup file to run it. > select the YES option. USER ACCOUNT CONTROL: Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? UserAccountControlSettings Verified publisher: Microsoft Windows Program location: "C:\Windows\system32\User\AccountControlSettings.exe" app Settings show information about the publisher's certificate. Change when these notifications appear. > Select YES. Check what files we have in the PC to run e-Sword. Look in This PC > Windows C: > C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword folder. > Return to the C:\Drive, and close any e-Sword which may be running. Rename the existing file in C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\e-sword.exe by giving the existing filename "e-Sword.exe" another name, for example I changed mine to: "This-is-version-12-2-0-e-Sword.exe" so that if something goes wrong, I would still have the previous version of e-Sword.exe to restore. This was necessary, because otherwise the new file will overwrite the previous file which has exactly the same name. > Return to the download file folder. LOOK IN THE TASK BAR > e-Sword-InstallShield Wizard. License Agreement. Please read the following license agreement carefully. "Readme Information". Please read the following readme information carefully. e-Sword 13.0 Update Notes. New Audio Bibles feature! Listen to the Bible being read to you in dramatic fashion. The wizard is ready to begin installation. If you want to review or change any of your installation settings click "Back" button. Click "Cancel" button to exit the wizard. Current settings: Setup type: Typical Destination Folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\ User Information: Name: user Company: HP. Three option buttons "Please wait while the Installation Shield Wizard installs e-Sword. This may take several minutes. The registry entries will be updated. One option button "Finish". > Move pointer and left-click with the pointer over the "Finish" button to close this task. > Open the C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword folder Notice that there is a new "e-Sword.exe" and a new "License.pdf" which you need to open and read. Here Rick Meyers gives you permission to run his program e-Sword version 13.0.0 copyright 2021. > Run e-Sword.exe > To test the audio option, select for example, any Bible, and select Book, chapter, and verse, for example Lev 23:1. Then select option "Tools", and select "SermonAudio.com" You need internet access. Select a sermon; listen on your PC. NOTE: In e-Sword option "Help", the first option indicates "e-Sword User's Guide...  F1". This means the keyboard shortcut will access the e-Sword User's Guide, when you tap function key "F1". NOTE: If you have printed a copy of the e-Sword User's Manual, annotate your copy, and add the "F1" missing option on page 6. NOTE: Annotate your e-Sword Manual with the note: > e-Sword version 13.0.0 e-Sword-InstallShield Wizard. License Agreement. Please read the following license agreement carefully. "Readme Information". Please read the following readme information carefully. e-Sword 13.0 Update Notes. New Audio Bibles feature! Listen to the Bible being read to you in dramatic fashion. Move pointer and left-click with the pointer over the "Install" button if everything is okay." > Add any other notes which you have learned, which will help you in future. If you like, you could suggest updates to BIBLESUPPORT.COM by sending a suggestion to Josh Bond of how he could make the e-Sword User's Guide more user friendly. Be as complete as possible with your example, giving all steps, in detail, in logical order, and mentioning on which device you are running e-Sword, the version number of e-Sword, and the name of the update operating system latest update on which your device is running, when you are making the suggestion. HINT: If you have more information about listening to the Bibles read aloud, please share your experience. I can't find this explained in the e-Sword options. Perhaps Rick Meyers left it out?

The problem is not the download or the installation warnings. I can work around all of those. The problem is that the correctly installed version 13 does not run on my PC.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Remember when version 12 was first released many had similar issues with e-Sword not running. Could this be a similar situation with some aspect of the newest version not being compatible with some setups?

The reason it is not working is that download is being corrupted during the download process by either MS Edge or Windows Defender. I just download the program using Google Chrome and had no issue with download. This issue is related to Windows Defender and other antivirus software and how they protect Windows.

There is another step the above users have not noticed. They must look for the e-Sword-InstallShield Wizard. This is running in the task bar. License Agreement. Rick Meyers has added the following instruction: Please read the following license agreement carefully. e-Sword (Registered) Copyright © 2000-2021 Rick Meyers. All Rights Reserved worldwide. Notice that there are two options: I accept the terms in the license agreement. and, I do not accept the terms in the license agreement.

NOTE: The default option is the second, in which you do NOT accept the terms of the license agreement. If you do NOT respond appropriately, then the InstallShield will not be allowed to proceed, and e-Sword version 13.0.0 will NOT be loaded into the PC in the required drive, path, and e-Sword folder. Rick Meyers is checking whether you can pay attention to instructions, and whether you are prepared to surrender your own will, and to comply appropriately. God uses exactly the same method.

The missing information about audio Bibles: Load e-Sword version 13.0.0 Then open the Help tab, and look at About. There is a paragraph, which tells us: All audio Bibles are generously provided by Bible.is, a ministry of Faith Comes By Hearing. More information can be found at www.bible.is

You will find details on Bible.is - Faith Comes by Hearing =  https://www.faithcom...ources/bible-is

Please refer to https://www.e-sword.net/faq.html for answer to the question: I JUST INSTALLED E-SWORD 13 AND IT WILL NOT START!
