Lillian1961, I hope your PC is allowing you to download e-Sword downloads from https://www.e-sword.com, and https://e-sword.com and from http://biblesupport.com when you are working online now.
Here is a HINT:
If your PC security operations have been upgraded recently by Microsoft, you may discover that files with the filename that has the file type in the format, ".exe" are being blocked.
The way that I have discovered to get around that problem is as follows. When the PC asks where you want to download the filename to, then take the opportunity to change the filename, by using a file type such as ".docx", and add those as a new file type at the end of the filename. Then the PC security will allow the file to download okay.
After the download has successfully completed there are two things that we need to do to allow the file to work as it was designed to work. We must first remove a block on the file. This was added by the PC security because it came from another computer. Then, we must get the name of the file back to what it was originally sent as. If there are spelling problems in the filename, fix these. You can change the name of a file, as long as the file type is what the PC recognizes, and it will work just fine.
First, browse to the file. Use either the various browser options or use File Explorer. Tap the name of the file, and right click, and in the options that are listed, select "Properties". Now view the properties of the file. Read the information about the Property details very carefully. Notice the Security warning at the bottom of the Properties on the General option.
This gives the Security warning, about this file. The warning message is: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help this computer.
Move the pointer over to the checkbox icon. Select the checkbox associated with the Unblock option. When you select the Checkbox,, then a checkmark ✓ will appear inside the checkbox, þ. You will also notice that at the bottom of the Properties windows there were two options, OK, and Cancel. The third option, the Apply option, was previously greyed out. After you have selected the checkbox next to the Unblock word, the Apply option becomes accessible. Move the pointer over the Apply button. Select Apply, and then select the OK button. This will unblock the file, and the PC security will remove the security warning.
Second, browse back to the file, and rename the file by removing the added ".docx" so that the filename reverts to the original name. Respond to the Rename warning with the appropriate response, to say you do want to allow the PC to rename the file. Then you will be able to process the "exe" file without it being immediately deleted by the updated Microsoft Security options. If you want to change the spelling of the name of a file, you can do so. Just keep the file type spelled the way that the PC will know what to do when it processes the file.
You might also experience the same with files that were zipped into a folder, by Bible Support. Before you select any unzipped files, which may have the "exe" filetype, also browse to that "exe" file, in the unzipped folder container, and view the Properties of all the files, and remove any security "blocks" that had been added on the file. Do so on all files you download from another computer also.
I do hope that you are able to enjoy a wonderful 2023. From Olaf Bacon.
