Hi,

I would like to copy either single of multiple verses in the format below and am wondering if it's possible to format in esword. The major formatting include brackets around the verse (Which I can do using the first copy preset), but then to add a colon and also putting double quotes around the verse text. See example below.

Example of 1 verse:

(John 1:1 NKJV): "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Example of 2 or more:

(John 1:1-2 NKJV): "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  (2)  He was in the beginning with God."

Currently I am manually putting them in, but it would be a real time saver to have esword do it for me using a preset. For 1 verse copy I use the first copy option and for multiple verses I use number 6. Also noticed, esword puts brackets in only on the first option but not the 6th which I use for 2 or more verses.

Can I update these to include more of my own preferences?

Thanks in Advance!

In Short, No you can't. e-Sword does not provide the options you specifically want.

As important as they may seem to you, it is impossible for the developer to add all the types of features for everyone may want to have in e-Sword. For if the developer did everything that every user wants to be included in e-Sword, then the program is going to be massively bloated. But more significantly, the ease and simplicity of use will be severely compromised.

YES you can do that

1. Highlight and right click the verse or right click the reference in the bible window

2. choose "copy verses" (not copy)

3. in the copy verses window make sure that "include translation name" is checked

4. then select number 4  or  6 on format

and that should give you what you have shown in example 1

from your post I read you already know how to do multiple verses did you know that in the bible window if you highlight multiple verse it will translates to the copy verses

for this to be example 2 in your post you need to set format in the copy verses window to number 6

I just checked and you can just leave format on 6 for both single and multiple verses

Before having replied to jrendlaw, I looked at option 6, and found that it doesn't quite meet the specificity or exactness what he wants. The two things that are not included is the full colon, that >>> : <<< thingy there, and the open/close parenthesis, that >>> () <<< thingy there.

If you take a closer look to what he is actually looking for, is that bit >>> (John 1:1 NKJV): <<< there. And what you get in Option #6 in e-Sword is this:

Romans 9:4 NKJV who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;

Which really looks "Blurk."

Option #4 does only to a certain extent, in which the parenthesis are included, BUT (and that's a huge and massive "but") the format is just doesn't fully meet his standard on single verses. And when it comes to multiple verses, it totally craps right out.

Single verse on Option #4 looks like this:

(Romans 9:1 NKJV)
I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

Multiple verses on Option #4 looks like this:

(Romans 9:1 NKJV)
I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

(Romans 9:2 NKJV)
that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart

of which he doesn't want.

You see, jrendlaw doesn't want to:

...manually putting them in...

And that's really where its at.

He wants:

to have e-Sword do it for me using a preset

And e-Sword doesn't have that preset format included.

And so, like I said:

In Short, No you can't.

And that's the way it is.

That said, I think it would be an easy fix on Option 6 for Rick to at least include the parenthesis on the initial reference. Whether to include the full colon, I don't think it would hurt, and tend to think that most would leave it there. Moreover, I do not think to have a totally new option included should be included is a good idea as that requires new code to be added, and so increases the actual size of the program - something of which (as a programmer) I am dead against.

I really love KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Blessings,
