Calvinism, Arminianism, Predestination

This is basically a three chapter work (each chapter is a fairly long one) describing the problems of Calvinism's teaching of Predestination from an admittedly Arminian position.

While I am neither Calvinistic nor Arminian, I found this work to be helpful and interesting.

  • Uploaded Mac/e-sword 11 version.

This is another resource which will help in understanding the problems encountered with Calvin's theology. I believe this piece of work sits really well along side with:

  • "The Dark Side of Calvinism, The Caste System" by George Bryson
  • "The Spurious Tulip, A Critical Examination of Calvinistic Soteriology" by Thomas D. Calkins.

Where Calkins and Bryson deals with the whole of the teaching of Calvin's TULIP doctrine, Hodgson seems to focus primarily on the Calvinists understanding of Predestination. If one is to clearly understand the Calvinist's view of Salvation, then one cannot focus on one aspect of it, namely Predestination. One must take into consideration the whole oft he TULIP doctrine, because if one part of it falls, then the whole of TULIP falls, or if one part of it stands, then the whole of TULIP stands.

Aside from this tad of a problem, I think this work is worth the read. I give it 3 stars.

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).
