#38963 Tooltip trema issues

Posted by E O Charles on 01 November 2020 - 08:36 AM in Module Creation Tools

Thank you Katoog!

I am a "budding" module maker.

I have two projects

1) Simple (language) bible version in the languages known to me (somewhat like the BBE) with a more liberal usage copyright than the modern versions we have now.

2) A "less ethnic" oriented bible version in the languages I know with a more liberal usage copyright than the modern versions we have now.

These are both meant to fill voids I encounter in outreach ministry so that some might read more on their own, whatever the issue may be (education / etnicity) . Many modern versions are not only modern in language, but sometimes also in concept or modern, but not simple (enough for my use case). But as long as they confess that "Jesus is Lord" I'll use them.

So I am now actively making a "Bijbel in Gewone Taal" esword module to learn how to use the esword  environment and see how esword would (could) work for my purposes. I'm sure it can work, I just need to find out how to do what I want to do with it.

To get more free control over output display (on screen) I think I could port a bible module to a commentary and solve that issue (temporarily), But I'll follow your lead and try the BBLI first as that would definitely require less work.

Common/traditional abbreviation usage comes first, but as a technical writer in a "former life"   a logical way of abbreviating seems to me by consonant first, something like  (1 Koningen 1Kn - 1  Kronieken 1Kr) and only going to vowels when there is conflict (1 Korintiërs - 1Kr -1Ko). Which is exactly what you did lol.

That is a good list you have there. May  I use it ?

Thanks again for all your pointers.

Tried posting with pictures, but that tripped a spam block seemingly

Great tool, keep up the good work.

The word "Betanië" shows up correctly in the bible but not in the Compare tab. Is this a known issue ... and how do I fix it?

I also see in scripture menu english and spanish options, what do those do?

How do I get the verse code to say JHN 12:1 and not JOH 12:1? Tried fiddling with the external abbreviation list to no avail.

Thanks in advance and again ... Great tool.

Thanks Katoog,

Just ran a test with BBLI, and that solved my trema issues, Thanks again.

Now let me go on to see if eSword will pick up a Headings.nl (I saw there is somewhere a portuguese one), I tried putting the headings in the bible, but that is definitely a lesser workaround.

You don't. That is the way e-Sword has been programmed to read it. Moreover, from what I have seen, that is the way most Bible programs seem to read the abbreviation of John.

Hi Stephen(?),

In dutch it would be Johannes JHN in some , and certainly in some of the most recent translations.
In dutch also  Chronicles EN - Kronieken NL, Corinthians EN - Korintiërs NL

I also use a lot of spanish bibles and for those John is correctly  translated to Juan in esword

Joh EN - Jua ES
But there are more languages where the abbr.  are different than the EN one.

I also use some trickier(translation wise) European, South American and Caribbean dialects/Languages , but if the Dutch one can be tackled, the rest would be within our grasp.

Why?, simple, retention is better when people can (continue to) read in their first language.

(I like your sig, let me test)
Jesus Is Lord

Errol Charles (Php 2:10-11)

But I like this more:
Jesus Is Lord (Php 2:10-11)

#38957 Headings file

Posted by E O Charles on 31 October 2020 - 08:33 PM in Module Creation Tools

Hi ,

How can I add a Headings file for  a bible language.
example:

C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\headings.en
C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\headings.es

Seems like an sqlite thing, is there a tool for that, or is there a workaround to do it in the bible file itself?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks again Katoog,

Making a headers file is relatively easy with the tool, ....but, they only get displayed if you use them in one of the languages that are already in eSword, ie headers.(EN-ES-PT). Something else needs to be activated elsewhere to get it done.

Time to contact Rick Meyers.

Hi Katoog,

Thank you for all your answers.

I do use a pre 1900 DSV and sometimes the "Bijbel in Gewone Taal BGT"
But I would take the titles from the "Summarized Bible" (Public Domain) and translate as led and as necessary.
