#46176 e-Sword X Not Remembering Views

Posted by APsit190 on 17 April 2024 - 12:08 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

I'm a long time user of e-Sword and e-Sword X, and enjoy it immensely. On Windows or MacOS Sonoma I have no issue. I have one older Mac running MacOS Monterey 12.7.4 that has one annoying issue. It will not open to my preferred window layout. It opens with all panes open, all blank, except the commentary which is populated with my last used pages.  I have to select 'Bible, Commentary' pane preference every time, and then reselect a Bible chapter and verse. It's not terrible, just a little annoyance, and I was hoping maybe someone knew a way to fix it.

Thanks...

John LaPierre

Like you, I've noticed that my preferred view doesn't always "stick" in e-Sword X.

The other thing I've noticed is that the KJV+ Strongs refs panel has a habit of disappearing. If I toggle back and forth to the cross refs view it springs back to life.

As both are related to the "stickiness" of the view, perhaps related?

My suggestion is to contact Rick Meyers, giving him the information about your issues.

Just as a matter of interest, has the issues you guys are experiencing has been:

  1. Recent; as in just started to happen due to
    1. Recent update/upgrade or
    2. Recent new/fresh installation or
    3. It just began sort of like on its own accord
  2. On going since you first installed e-Sword X on you device?

By the way, the more information you can give to Rick Meyers (he's the bloke you authored e-Sword) as to what caused the issues you guys are experiencing, the better are the chances you have for a fix to the problem.

Another By the Way thingy. @ Glenn1611. Your "stickiness" thingy could be hardware related, i.e. lack of RAM or your Monitor is on its way out (getting ready to die), and needs to be replaced.

#46173 Seeking Expository Commentary by James Montgomery Boice

Is there somewhere to read them online?

Google it up, and I'm sure you might find a website to read it online. :D

#46162 How to open The book of Enoch

Posted by APsit190 on 08 April 2024 - 06:20 AM in Tutorials

Is there a “book of Enoch” for e-Sword. If so, where can I find ie and how do I install it. I would also like to have the Commentaries and other “reference” sections to go along with it just like there are for the “regular” books of the Bible.

Thank You

R

Yes there is. Click here to either or both download it/them.

#46158 Tooltip Unicode Fixup wipes my file

Posted by APsit190 on 07 April 2024 - 05:39 PM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

ToolTipTool NT 20191007 Should work. Not sure what the issue is with the  2020 version but it will never be fixed.

@ Waarheid Ondersoeker

And the reason for "it will never be fixed" bit is that the author of T4 has gone to be with the Lord. And moreover, T4 was written in a programming language which used numerics as its code; of which no one here knows how to program in such a method.

So, all this means is that ToolTip Tool NT will never be updated. Not only that, but also no-one else has put up their hands to create a similar program to replace T4, and as such this application will eventually become incompatible and obsolete that it will die.

#46144 Renaming Bibles

Thank you so much,I was having trouble finding that setting it is under Bible rather than under options.

ROFL.gif

Sorry about that, you just cracked me up.

OK, being serious now.

Hey guys,

Ok so I like my Bibles to have their full names on the tabs, and have renamed  the bibles in the e-sword directory and then used the tab renamer to to make their full names on the tabs

I trust you have oodles of RAM, or if not, you don't have that many Bible translations and/or other resources for e-Sword to load. Because doing what you want to do is going to quite considerably slow e-Sword down when it loads the resources or may cause it to crash. It would be interesting to see how much your e-Sword has slowed down as a result of the long TAB names.

Both Long TAB Names plus oodles of resources just doesn't bode well for e-Sword. I tried it and it crashed on 16GB of RAM (Random Access Memory, and also known as Volatile Memory)

#46135 Thayers on the KJV+

Posted by APsit190 on 02 April 2024 - 12:37 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hi Shane,

As you may be aware, Thayers is a dictionary, and as such it's quite blind as to what translation of the Bible anyone may use in e-Sword; particularly if one may have selected e.g. the NIV, and when a scripture referenced is moused over, that particular translation will pop up in the tooltip dialog. So, if you have more than just the KJV translation on your e-Sword, then you will need to ensure you have that translation selected.

Trust you will find this information helpful to you.

#46106 Mysword in Windows!

Posted by APsit190 on 27 March 2024 - 06:20 AM in MySword

You can run MySword on Windows using a program called Blue Stacks which is an an Android Emulator

Hi Higgsy,

When using Samsung's Galaxy Android devices, whether it Galaxy phones or Galaxy tablets, Blue Stacks in not a requirement as these devices have (in partnership with Microsoft) apps that will connect them directly and link to Windows, and as such run these devices on Windows.

If you have a look in your Windows (10 and/or 11) Start Menu, you may see an app called "Phone Link." This app will connect your Samsung Galaxy phone to your Windows device. Check to see if you have that app installed. If memory serves me correctly, I think I did a video a few years ago, and plonked it up on here.

Another thing too; if you go to your Windows settings, you will see an icon of a mobile phone with the title, "Phone," and the sub-text, "Link your Android, iPhone." And from there you can turn on your Phone Link app.

As to Samsung's Galaxy tablets, they use a different app that will connect it to Windows. I haven't got a clue what that is called.

With that said, Blue Stacks will come in handy for non Samsung  Galaxy  devices.

Trust you find this information helpful.

#46094 Searching by highlight color

Posted by APsit190 on 23 March 2024 - 02:36 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Is there a way to search for Bible verses that are highlighted with a specific color?

From a programmers perspective, I guess that it can be done, but when it comes to specificity that can be a real problem.

So, here's the problem: You could have many verses of Scripture which have the same color (you can see the road I'm taking), and in your search by color, the result (you guessed it right) of that particular will pop up. So, which verse did you really want?!

Albeit that the search by color is somewhat narrower than a search by a word, you still may not find the exact verse you are looking for. And the difficulty can be even further compounded by a user when he or she just loves to go for the customized colors rather than the 6 main colors in e-Sword. And (by the way) there ain't a name for them.

But, hey, what do I know, I'm just a (retired) programmer.

#46087 All caps Koine Greek

Posted by APsit190 on 22 March 2024 - 12:37 AM in Module Requests

Simply use a Koine Greek font that uses all caps.

Or alternatively, get a Greek font that is totally upper case, and not lower case.

That's what I like to call, "A real hard case." ROFL.gif

#46053 Adding Bookmarks

Posted by APsit190 on 07 March 2024 - 02:10 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Is there a way to bookmark in the commentaries and other resources?

Commentaries and Dictionaries:

In short: No!

For a much longer and comprehensive answer: No!

Topic, Study, and Journal Notes:

Short answer: Yes!

For a much longer and comprehensive answer: Yes

I was thinking about doing a "How to" video on this topic, but Nah. Can't be bothered. There's a pretty decent help resource which comes with e-Sword in pdf format, "e-Sword User Guide." It just might help you.

Over and out!

#46026 Creating Bible Modules with Strong's Numbers

Posted by APsit190 on 29 February 2024 - 10:02 PM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

I am not having much luck with finding away to create bibles with Strong's Number's.

I have tried a few macros with Open Office Writer but have had no luck, I have also checked out a number of Find and Replace software programs with no luck.

Hopefully I will hit on something

Hi Higgsy,

Remember this tip?

My suggestion is you pick Rick Meyers' brains on resolving this problem.

Now, if he has a "quick" method, I'm certain he will share it with you. It'll save you pulling your hair out (that's if you have any :D) trying to figure it out.

Remember the old adage, "You'll never know unless you give it a go." So, ask him. It won't cost you anything. Fair dinkum, mate.

#46019 Amplified Bible NIV version for mysword

Posted by APsit190 on 28 February 2024 - 01:14 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

If you have the e-Sword versions either of those they can be converted for MySword using Simple Bible Reader

Higgsy,

The NIV and Amplified Bibles are locked resources, and cannot be converted using Simple Bible Reader. Moreover, when you give advice like this (as much as I hate saying this), you're, ummm, condoning a criminal activity  . Naughty boy!!!

#45978 Creating Bible Modules with Strong's Numbers

Posted by APsit190 on 21 February 2024 - 01:48 PM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

StrFind = "beginning, God, created, heavan, earth"
StrRepl = "beginningH7225, GodH430, createdH1254, heavenH8064, earthH778"

Hi Higgsy,

Having looked at your code, the problem I see with it, is that it replaces all the words with just those Strong numbers only. So, for example take the word "Earth." Going by what I can see, there are two Strong numbers for that word: H776 and H127. So, reading your syntax, where the word Earth is suppose to have H127; that will have H776. That then becomes a major problem because you have a incorrect rendering of that word, Earth, in that instance or those instances. You have to resolve this problem. You can't just ignore it. See examples below:

And now art thou cursedH779 [H8803] from the earthH127 (Gen 4:11)

TheseH428 are the generationsH8435 of the heavensH8064 and of the earthH776 (Gen 2:4).

My suggestion is you pick Rick Meyers' brains on resolving this problem. And bearing this in mind, I'd be interested to see what your thoughts are on this issue.

Blessings,
