#35793 e-Sword 11.10 installed into Linux

Posted by dogfish on 10 April 2019 - 10:11 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Update: I  tried this script (running Mint 19.1) and it failed in a few places because it is out of date. One of them is the e-sword file version which obviously has to be changed to1122. Other areas have to do with repository addresses and such which have also changed. The new info is available at winehq.orq, but I don't know enough about scripting to make all the changes and make everything gel. Perhaps if someone does know how to do this and rebuild a script that works it could be posted and tried.

For now I will stick with the dual-boot win/linux setup I have :)

#35792 Configure winecfg in linux

Posted by dogfish on 10 April 2019 - 03:05 AM in Tutorials

I wanted to get e-sword running in Linux as well, but have had no luck with Wine at all. Still pretty new at the Linux thing, but I gave up for now and just went with a dual-boot system setup - Linux & Win 7. Good luck :)

#35562 e-Sword 11.10 installed into Linux

Posted by dogfish on 11 March 2019 - 12:18 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hey, thanks for sharing this info ! I actually found it while doing a google search about running e sword on Zorin, which is the Linux flavor I am currently trying out. Until a few days ago I didn't know anything about Linux, but I decided to get into it because I want to be rid of Win 7 before the updates expire.       It's working fine for me btw - not trying the multi-boot thing though - lol.

There aren't really any Windows programs I want to be able to run on Linux except for e sword, so when I get to that part of the change-over I'm going to give it a shot. :-)

#35182 No Synonyms Search Option ?

Yep - that did it. Thanks. Don't know how I missed that,..

#35180 No Synonyms Search Option ?

Posted by dogfish on 22 January 2019 - 12:16 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

I have recently noticed that the 'synonyms' check box on my bible search dialogue is disabled. Has anyone come across this and is there a quick fix ?  I had previously moved resources to a custom sub-folder (programs>esword>modules) so maybe something is not quite right ?  Also, I am running Win7.  I'm guessing that if I uninstall and start over it will probably work, but I'd rather avoid that if possible.  Thanks for any info.

#35127 Topic Notes in The Reference section: what were they named?

Posted by dogfish on 13 January 2019 - 04:46 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

On digging a bit deeper: if you click on 'Options' then 'Resource...' you should be able to see where the program is looking for data files. Theses settings are changeable. Don't know if that helps.

#35125 Topic Notes in The Reference section: what were they named?

Strange...  I'm not familiar with the older version, but on a clean install I don't have any user files in my program folder.

If you think that there's something worth keeping I would rename the one in the program folder to something else like 'topic_old.topx' then move it to your documents folder with the others. You can have multiple files there as long as they don't have the same name. Then you should be able to select and open which ever one you like.

#35123 Profile Feed ?

I'm still pretty new to using this site (other than downloading resources, of course) and I was wondering what a 'profile feed' is and why you would use it. Apologies if I posted in the wrong forum.

Cool! Yeah, I'm not sure why the link doesn't work - the whole process of uploading here is new to me. I'd be happy to send you the list I have so far. Thanks for your interest.

The program version in this video is 6.5.1 which is quite old. I wouldn't rely on it very much. The current eSword version is 11.2.2

Syncing just means that whatever you have clicked on in the bible window, in this case a particular verse, should automatically show up in your study notes window. The verse number in the bible should also then be underlined to show that there is a study note connected to it.

Often you will have to close and re-open the program to see any changes. If in doubt: just close and re-open it.

I have created my own personal list and posted it here:

It isn't very big (and I'm going to try to keep it from getting too big), but will be expanded as time permits.

Thanks again !  I do get this, but maybe I just don't like the way it's formatted - which is pretty slim.

Perhaps a demo of what I'm thinking about:

The 10 Commandments:  Exo_20:1
