#44642 Help with e-Sword LT

Posted by modulist on 26 June 2023 - 01:28 PM in MySword

You have to double tap on the verse reference (the green underlined part at the beginning of the verse). The very first option you should see in the pop-up menu is "Bookmark."

#44639 How to delete memory verses in iPhone?

Posted by modulist on 25 June 2023 - 03:53 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

The built-in tutorial seems to be a little outdated. You have to double-tap the verse reference in the Bible view, that is, the green underlined part at the beginning of each verse. This brings up a pop-up menu. You will have to tap the right arrow in the menu to get to "Memorize." From there you can select a category for your verse, and even include more adjacent verses if you like. After choosing a category, tap "Done."

Hope this helps.

#44576 can search results be docked?

Posted by modulist on 15 June 2023 - 08:00 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Near the search button, which looks like a pair of binoculars, a little to the right, there is a pop-up menu. If you perform a search and then click "OK," then all of the verses that were in the search result will be found in this menu, so you can easily switch between the results.

I hope this helps.

#44482 Help with fonts

Posted by modulist on 24 May 2023 - 03:05 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Like Katoog said, you don't need to change the font info in each of the topic files. An easy way to zoom up the font size is to use the little button that looks like a magnifying glass which is just to the left of the list box from which to choose your topic file. Try it and see if it works for you.

Fun fact: this button also appears on the toolbar for every other pane, whether it is the Bible pane, the Dictionary pane, etc.

Edit: sorry the picture looks so small on this post, but if you click it, you will see a larger version.

First of all, you have to make sure it is the right file for Mac, in this case ending with the extension .cmti. All the info you need will be found in the PDF which can be downloaded here:

#44298 Copying Resources

Posted by modulist on 11 April 2023 - 05:05 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

A lot of people seem to get confused about copying resources to e-Sword for the Mac. I think the problem is that the method is different between Windows and Mac. So, I have uploaded a brief instructional PDF giving all the details. It can be found here:

#44295 Copying Resources

Posted by modulist on 11 April 2023 - 03:23 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

To import a single file into e-Sword, all you have to do is double-click the file on the Mac and it will automatically open and import into e-Sword.

However, to import multiple files, which I assume is what you want to do, with e-Sword X open, go to the menu item File>Resources>Import... A typical open file dialog will appear in which you can choose all the files you want to import. After choosing the files to import, click the "Open" button in said dialog, all of the files you have chosen will be moved into the proper location and will show up immediately in e-Sword.

Just for interest sake, the actual folder where installed e-Sword resources are kept on the Mac is: ~/Library/Containers/net.e-sword.e-Sword-X/Data/Library/Application Support. Files can be manually moved to this folder, but it is a lot easier to use the methods I have mentioned above.

#44255 Is ToolTip Tool NT the only program for making e-Sword modules?

#44179 Hebrew Bible for e-Sword X (Mac)

Posted by modulist on 11 March 2023 - 06:31 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

Are the .png files necessary to be installed? They will not show up in e-Sword, not being e-Sword module files, and this is why they cannot be imported through the import function. However, if they are necessary for the functioning of the other modules, the location to install them (in case you don't already know) would be ~/Library/Containers/net.e-sword.e-Sword-X/Data/Library/Application Support

This folder is hidden by default, but you can get to it by copying the path provided above, then in the Finder choose from the menu "Go>Go to Folder..." or press Command+Shift+G. Paste the path into the dialog that results, press Return, and, voila, that folder will be opened, ready for you to manually put your stuff in it. Here is where you will find all of the installed e-Sword resources on the Mac.

#44162 Trying to get bible mods to show up in e-sword for ipad pro

Posted by modulist on 05 March 2023 - 06:22 PM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

I must have made it sound more complicated than it is, but it's really quite simple. Double-clicking on an e-Sword file on the Mac is simpler than in Windows where you have to manually move the file to the right location (unless you use the third-party e-Sword Module Installer). And a resource opening up automatically in iOS and being added to e-Sword also seems pretty darn simple—simpler than an "Import" button. But anyway, it doesn't really matter: each to their own, right.

;)

Plus, I should add that whether e-Sword is simpler to use on one platform over another has nothing to do with the OS, but with how Rick Meyers programmed it. Neither Apple, nor Microsoft, nor Google have anything to do with that.

As to whether iOS or Android is easier to use, my personal opinion is that iOS is more intuitive (and I've used both). I also feel that macOS is more intuitive and simple than Windows (and again, I've used both). But that's just my opinion, and it isn't a slam against any particular operating system. I'm neither a Mac evangelist nor a Windows-basher. It's just a matter of personal preference. Live and let live, right?

#44154 Trying to get bible mods to show up in e-sword for ipad pro

Posted by modulist on 04 March 2023 - 11:20 AM in e-Sword Modules / Resources

Just as a matter of interest, when it comes to adding resources to either e-Sword LT or HT, in the Menu, do you have a Import menu item?

No, there is no import menu item in e-Sword LT (and I assume in HD either—I don't own an iPad). If you open an e-Sword resource file in iOS, whether in the file system or from an email or from AirDrop, it will automatically open and import into e-Sword. The same goes for macOS—if you double click an e-Sword file in the Finder (the macOS equivalent of Windows Explorer) it will automatically open the file in e-Sword X and import the file into the proper location and it will show up right away among your installed resources.

It should also be known that if you try to send modules that have an abbreviation and name of an official module, they will never show up. I found this out by sending certain modules to my iOS device that I made for my own use, but which normally you have to buy. For example, if you send the NKJV, it won't show up. I don't know if this is the case with you, but it's worth mentioning.

The only workaround that I could find was to alter the abbreviations and names of such modules, such as, to continue the example above, of renaming the module to something like "NKIU" and "N K1ng James Vers10n." This requires the use of an SQLite Browser, but it's really not that hard to do. You could also use "e-Sword Tab Renamer" if you are using Windows.

Again, I don't know if this is the problem you are having, but thought it would be worth mentioning.

#44072 new to Mac

Posted by modulist on 17 February 2023 - 01:57 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean that e-Sword is opening up multiple instances or multiple copies at once in different desktops? When I launch e-Sword on the Mac I only ever get one instance. Some more details and maybe screenshots would be helpful.

#44070 james Moffatt translation - becomes public domain when?

Posted by modulist on 17 February 2023 - 11:07 AM in Copyright & Licensing

As far as I am aware, the Moffat Bible is in the public domain.

Depending on the country you are in, Like here in NZ, the copyright has well and truly done its dash. In the US, I think it's also done its dash. Your copy you have is a 1926 edition. Well that's pretty much close to 100 years, and it hasn't been renewed. So I would say that the copyright is well and truly totally stuffed, as in munted.

I would agree. I think we can safely say that this is in the public domain now, although it appears that it came into the public domain in the US just a few years ago, so yes, 10 years ago it would not have been in the public domain in the US.

Here in Canada, it would have been in the public domain a couple of decades ago because Moffatt died in 1944. Our copyright laws have recently changed to conform to other countries laws (you can thank the new version of NAFTA for that), but anything already in the public domain remains so. Hence, for example, C. S. Lewis' works are public domain here in Canada, but not in the US at this time.
