#31542 Is The Numeric New Testament Open Domain?

Posted by KeepSmiling on 29 September 2017 - 12:41 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Wow!

You guys are amazing. I looked and didn't find any of this.  I found a version Google made. It was the 1914 edition.

I think if a book was first copyrighted in the US then regardless of where it's printed US laws apply for renewals and expiration. If it's first copyrighted in another country then because of NAFTA or other international laws the international laws can apply.

Good point about who copyrighted it versus who printed it!

Thanks so much Olaf and Mike. I will follow the links adn see what I can use : )

Again, thanks so much : )

Michael,

I searched the Full text of "Catalog of Copyright Entries 1935 Books New Series Vol 32 Pt 1 For the Year 1935" and didn't find anything.
I am looking for other "parts" if this is part 1.
I downloaded and searched the 20170427-copyright-renewals-records.csv and didn't find anything.
They may be the same text in different forms.
You said "1935 U.S, copyright renewal records from 1962, 27 yr renewal date.  It also may not have been renewed."
Where did you get this from?

Thanks : )

I'm working on catching up to you : )

I downloaded the 1935 U.S. copyright renewal records but haven't searched them yet.  Probably tonight.  Sounds like you suggested the right place to look.  I'm excited!

Michael, thanks so much for the help. We're talking apples and apples. I understand the difference between making a copy of something and copyrighting your version of it and owning the original copyright.  A bit like writing a chemistry book with the periodic table in it. Your book with the periodic table is copyrighted by you and my book with the periodic table is mine.  UBM can copyright anything they want if it's their own work but that doesn't affect my interest in wanting to do a similar work and copyrighting my version.  Any suggestions on how to research the second edition?  I'm new at it and want to focus on using it.  UBM would have had to know it's open domain before they could do anything with it. If they have a free copy, who would pay for it?  Nice going on their part, but I have other interests.  Why stifle creativity, or inspiration? I would think the more the merrier. Why limit God rather than help others mature a good value?

I found this on one site regarding a 2017 version: This edition is taken from the 4th printing (1954 printed in Great Britain, Book Society of Canada) of his 1935 revision of his 1914 English translation, and includes both the Preface and the Preface to the Second Edition found in that copy.

The plot thickens.

It is available but it is full of errors. One small example is the colon that should be before a word to indicate an article is incorrectly at the end of the preceding word.  Can you tell me if it is open domain?  If I wish to share things out of it and it is protected then the rules are different than if I can use it freely and not worry about it.  Thank you : )

Is The Numeric New Testament Open Domain?

Are there any restrictions on using it and making the content public?

Thanks for being there : )
