I think you may needs about 15 min for that:

- re: bible links, e-Sword has a very standard set of abbreviations for 66 books, just do a search and replace, like searching (Gen|Exo|Lev|Num|Deu) ([0-9]+?:[0-9]+?)([^0-9]), replaced with <ref>\1 \2</ref>\3, may do many bible links for the first five books.  add more abb. in the first pair of ( ), do more, just simply click "replace all" save your time ...

- re: Strong's no., even easier, search: (G|H)([0-9]+?)([^0-9]), replace all with <num>\1\2</num>\3

 

if you have many modules, use TextWrangler.  I use this free software to do all my modules, can do search and replace for multiple files and folder.

 

Remarks: enable "case sensitive" and "regular expression" while you do search and replace

Thank you, Eliran Wong! I just tried to do what you say is the easier Strong's numbers search text and replace text, using TextWrangler, but I must not have done it correctly.

TextWrangler did not find the search string: (G|H)([0-9]+?)([^0-9]).

I'm sure what you shared does work, but using search strings like this are not something I've ever done. All I've ever done along this line of find and replace are simple words or phrases.

Besides, when I opened the file in TextWrangler, it showed up with a bunch of question marks within the text. So, maybe that's where I need to focus. All I did was open up the .lexi file for the Strong's Plus Dictionary in TextWrangler.

But I think I'm missing something. Thanks, again!

In e-Sword X on Mac,

- links to a bible reference with a pair of tags, <ref></ref>, e.g. <ref>Joh 3:16</ref>

- links to a Strong number dictionary with <num> & </num>, e.g. <num>G2424</num>

- links a word to a dictionary topic, just right click a word and select "Define"

I have browsed message board topics where the topic title had something to do with how to create or modify a module.

The thing is the time necessary to complete the work is not available to me.

There are far too many modules in my library with this issue, and setting tags on each item in need of a link would take far too long to complete.

Knowing my schedule, I think the Lord might return before I'd finish. (smile)

Nonetheless, just today I read a post where another popular message board participant commented about the idea of modifying all modules into HTML files.

I hope while this is accomplished, all of the modules with links retain the links e-Sword for Windows without leaving the e-Sword on Mac users to find a solution on our own.

I assumed the 3.0.0 version of the conversion utility would do it, but not so.

As a matter of fact, the conversion utility does do it, but only for e-Sword for Windows.

Earlier today I used the conversion utility 3.0.0 to convert my copy of the Strong's Plus Dictionary for e-Sword 10, then I installed it in my copy of e-Sword 11, and the links work. I am not sure why the links in this same converted module do not work in the current version of e-Sword X on Mac.

1) Strong numbers are not longer underlined since e-Sword 11 (the 10 version was green and underlined but Strong.lexi without the + is in violet only).

2) the reason why you has trouble with the links is because of Options Strong's #Tooltip in active window ; select another lexicon.

I am using e-Sword X on Mac. When you mentioned "Options Strong's #Tooltip in active window ; select another lexicon", I assume that is in reference to the Windows version of e-Sword. And that's fine. If not, then I don't understand.

I do have e-Sword for Windows installed, but I really don't use it. Primarily I use e-Sword X on Mac, and I hope to find a solution to this issue.

Maybe I'll just need to wait until all the modules get changed to the new HTML format, then all I should need to do from that point is change the file extensions to .bbli, or .dcti, for example, in order to solve this problem.

Please excuse me. I just edited my first post above. What I mean by tooltip is link. A link to another part of the same module, or a link to a completely different module.

This is how both Bible references and Strong's numbers work, and this is also how grammar code links work, etc.

Honestly, I have not gone through each module in my library to see what kind of information is linked (tool tipped), but if that is necessary, I can do it to provide that information.

For now, I do know of the Bible verse reference, Strong's number, and grammar code links because I use them so much. The conversion utility did not convert over this functionality.

But when you use the conversion utility to convert the Strong's Plus Dictionary module so it will import into e-Sword X on Mac, you can see a great example of what a link looks like with its underline formatting, but does not retain the functionality of the using the links. In Strong's Plus Dictionary most or all of the Greek numbers are linked to Hebrew numbers, and visa versa, but these links do not work.

I just want to be able to use all of the modules in my library that have tooltips. For example, the modules you created have tooltips, so I would want this usage for all of the e-Sword 10.x.x modules I converted to work in e-Sword X on Mac. I'm not sure why neither the latest conversion utility, nor the older conversion utility keep the tooltips intact. But whatever it is you're doing when you provide tooltips in your modules for e-Sword X on Mac might be an added benefit to the code of the conversion utility.

The only help file offered in e-Sword X that I know of is what can be found by going to the app's Help menu, which takes the user to a webpage on the e-Sword X website.

Also, I found only two YouTube videos that may help, and they can be found here: Video 1 and Video 2.

In addition to this, I also learned how to keep the different content panes inside the e-Sword X application window in a permanent position. For example, a content pane would be the Bible pane, or the Commentary pane, etc. So, in order to place these in a desired position, drag the edges of the panes until they are placed as desired. And once you wish to close e-Sword X for the day, click the red button in the upper left-hand corner. This will keep the panes positioned in the last state of the application, and this can be seen the next time the app is opened. However, if the Quit command is used, and not the red button, in order to close the app for the day, all of the panes will go back to their default locations. I found this to be very frustrating, so I thought I would add this nugget of information.

This topic is very helpful, and I have been able to convert a few modules as a test before I purchase e-Sword X.

However, I found a problem, and I wonder if anyone has discovered a solution.

Some of the modules I have are .mapx files, and the e-SwordPCtoAppleModuleConverter does not seem to have a .mapx Type.

Does anyone know what I might do to fix this because I have some graphics modules that I really need to use in e-Sword X.

However, if all else fails I can keep CrossOver on my Mac with the current installation of e-Sword for Windows.

Any helpful advice is appreciated.

Thank you for your labor of love.

One thing lacking in my personal study library are actual complete Biblical Hebrew, Biblical Chaldee, Biblical Aramaic, and Biblical Greek dictionaries. I do have modules with the word "dictionary" or "lexicon" in the title, but these works are not actual dictionaries in the sense of the word "dictionary". For example, the popular Strong's Dictionary is coded with numbers for every word it references in Scripture, but were you aware that the majority of the words in Scripture are not the same words found in the Strong's Dictionary? Please allow me to clarify my thoughts.

The Strong's Dictionary, and most of the other modules I have within this portion of my library are limited because the majority of the words in them are simply root words. These are not the actual words you will find in your Hebrew/Chaldee/Aramaic, or Aramaic/Greek Bibles. To illustrate, do a search on Strong's number G3056. Strong's Dictionary will show this Strong's number as the Greek word "logos". But not every word in any Bible with Strong's numbers is the same word found in the Strong's Dictionary. The word found in the Strong's Dictionary is spelled Lambda Sigma Gamma Omicron ( or Omikron) Sigma (with the last Sigma written differently because it is at the end of the word).

However, e-Sword found 331 results in a New Testament search for Strong's number G3056. In these results I found my favorite Scripture, which is John 8:31, where it reads, "¶ Then said Yahushua (Jesus) to those Yahudim (Jews) which believed on him, If you continue in my word G3056, then are ye my disciples indeed;" However, and this is my point, this specific verse does not show the same exact word found in Strong's Dictionary, nor in most other lexicons and dictionaries in my library. The word for Strong's number G3056 found in John 8:31 uses a different inflection (form) of itself. Basically, all this means is that it is spelled differently. Yet, this also means, it cannot have the exact same definition. Is the definition similar? It depends on the word. But who wants similar.Are you satisfied with similar when you pop open Webster's, Merriam's, or the American Heritage dictionaries?  Do you even think that to look for similar in one of these dictionaries is profitable? And please don't get me wrong. I am not making this point over such things as word ending alone, where an -s, -ing, or -ed ending will still have a similar definition among the different spellings of the words. The differences I am pointing out are not even referenced in the lexicons and dictionaries in my library.

To continue, just because some of the letters are the same does not make the definition the same. Personally, I think this is a serious error, and a common mistake among believers, to whom this thought has not yet come to mind. In John 8:31, the word is spelled Lambda Sigma Gamma Omega. The e-Sword module, "Mounce Concise Greek-English Dictionary of the New Testament" just so happens to define this occurrence of this word as "doctrine", which I later found to also be defined in as "instruction" in the e-Sword module, "Thayer's Unabridged Greek - English Lexicon of the New Testament". Also, the Easy-to-Read Version, Good News Bible, and Weymouth New Testament all use the word "teaching" here. This simple study showed me a similar meaning between this occurrence of this word, and the common definition of the Hebrew word "torah H8451" which some like to define as teaching and instruction because of the underlying relation torah has to "yarah H3384". But what about the words that these two hyperlinked works, above, do not include? In fact, what about the Aramaic, Hebrew, and Chaldee words of Scripture?

I hope I was able to clearly communicate my thoughts. If you or anyone else can make a module of this sort, that includes a definition for each word in Scripture, Old and New Testament, that would truly be a dearly needed work. We hunger and thirst for righteousness, and we are currently being filled on root words, and their dissimilar definitions. LoL Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of Elohim, so I hope we can have an easily accessible definition for every word. Root words, and their definitions alone lead us astray, even if our intentions are genuinely good. This is real life here, and we need real substance, not make believe, but belief supported by accurate knowledge.

Now, with all of that said, I wish to end with my thanks to you. Some of the work you and others have already added to this site, I already downloaded and put to good use. Thank you for your labor of love. May YAHAH bless you and keep you in His peace.

All your resources are made for MySword. They are incompatible for e-Sword.

 

Please note that e-Sword are totally two different products made by two different people from two different countries:

1. e-Sword is made by Rick Meyers in the United States
2. MySword is made by some bloke in Singapore.

And so with that they are totally unrelated.

 

Therefore, you need to be careful not to confuse e-Sword with MySword, and/or MySword with e-Sword. Remember; they are totally incompatible to each other, and the resources will not work on the other product.
