#46159 Tooltip Unicode Fixup wipes my file

Posted by Tj Higgins on 07 April 2024 - 07:37 PM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

Hi Tj...!

Thank you for your quick response. It actually widens my question...

My ordinary text in my commentary is most probably 99% of 3 MB standard text in the Calibri font, 12 point. If I don't run "Unicode Fix" that comes out perfectly, but the Hebrew quotes, come out as strange characters as indicated above. The Hebrew characters and text are all marked as Titus Cyberbit Basic, yet,, when I run "Hebrew Unicode Fixup", all my text is erased, except for my e-mail address.

My Tooltip version is V2020-04-11.

Thank you.

The font settings are for e-Sword not Tooltip as long as the correct fonts are set in e-Sword everything should work correctly with out needing use the fixups

#46153 Tooltip Unicode Fixup wipes my file

Posted by Tj Higgins on 06 April 2024 - 10:52 AM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

I am in the process of creating a commentary file (currently in excess of 3 MB) for my Afrikaans Scriptures. In this file, I frequently refer to Hebrew and Greek words. If I run a "Unicode Fixup" as described in the Tooltip User Manual, my whole file is wiped clean. All that remains is my email address that I enter into the Header.

If I don't run the "fixup", my hebrew text is garbled. - The Hebrew word for "Covenant" (beriyth) looks like this: áÌøéú.

Does anyone experience a similiar problem?

Thank you.

The Hebrew Unicode Fixup and the Greek Unicode Fixup are for for words in Greek and  Hebrew. You need to make sure the font setting for Greek and Hebrew are set correctly in e-Sword.

The word Beriyth in Hebrew looks like this בריית'

The default font in e-Sword for Hebrew and Greek is Titus Cyberbit Basic but you can experiment with other fonts if you wish

#46132 Thayers on the KJV+

Posted by Tj Higgins on 01 April 2024 - 08:12 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hello!

Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere else.

I’m using e-sword x on my Mac. How do I add the Thayers lexicon to the KJV+? When I click on the numbers it gives me the Strongs and my Greek or Hebrew word study, but it doesn’t show Thayers like my e-sword HD for iPad does. I have it downloaded but can’t seem to access it. Please help. Thank you so much!

You need to download the Thayer's module into e-Sword for MAC from this link:

#46130 Font for Hebrew (eg HBSE+++) which aligns vowel pointings?

Posted by Tj Higgins on 01 April 2024 - 01:31 PM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

Thanks for your reply.  Typo, yes BHSE+++.  I've installed PC_BHSE+++.bbli

SBL Hebrew font seems the best.  I've also tried Ezra Sil which was recommended on a post somewhere here.  I don't get any of them to display properly.

I did get a message from Rick to contact the creator, so not sure if anyone here has resolved this.

Image attached.

First your attached image in your last post does not appear in your post

Second that particular module has more then one upload here on Bible Support the original upload is for use the Apple/Mac versions of e-Sword back in 2016 with an updated version released in 2018.

This version is at the following link her on Bible Support:

http://www.biblesupp...etcbc-4b-hebre/

Last year Bible Support member Elder B created a version for the Windows version of e-Sword as a bbli module. Elder B's new version arranges the bible verses in tables which makes for a clean neat and unique appearance.

In his post for the module he stated the required font setting which are as follows:

"FONT SETTINGS:

For optimum alignment, I use a Default Font of Segoe UI with Default Font Size 11 and a Hebrew font of TITUS Cyberbit Basic"

Here is the link to the Windows version of this module:

#46123 e-Sword ToolTip Tool NT

Posted by Tj Higgins on 29 March 2024 - 07:47 PM in Module Creation Tools

Thanks.. This one seems to load.

Question..i notice there is a choice for the apocrypha.

While i use the modules in mysword, is it possible to have apocrypha appear in the book choices?

I know the KJV (and other versions) originally had them, but ive only seen them on the book tab.

Also, do i have to use/know the abbreviations?

Can i say  ÷1.1.2 instead of ÷Gen 1.2?

or will tooltip add the books in for me?

thanks

You have use the format Gen 1:2 you only need one mark at beginning off a bible module if your module includes the apocrypha the apocrypha books will appear in the book list in blue

#46072 Linux Mint 20: E-Sword 12 search not linking to verse results

Posted by Tj Higgins on 15 March 2024 - 12:17 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

What is the wine dll required to make E-Sword's search results link to the verses they reference?

I have been using E-Sword in wine for a couple years now, and just assumed that functionality didn't exist.  Then I installed it on a laptop, and suddenly the search results were linking to their verse results!  I tried ensuring I had the same list of dlls installed and the computer's install threw errors if I had msxml3 or 6 installed.  So I'm hoping it's not that.

Everything works in E-Sword otherwise, though while downloading works, it throws an error on closing the program.  No error is thrown if I close the program without having downloaded anything.  Downloaded books still display properly after restarting the program though.

It also doesn't pull the same fonts as the laptop installation even though I installed core fonts, uninstalled E-sword, renamed the folder, then reinstalled it.  (I was trying to get the pc's linux version to look and act like the laptop's version)

Any ideas which dlls or other components I may be missing in wine?

(I'm using linux mint 20 on the PC because attempting to upgrade to 21 messed things up badly and I had to revert back to 20)

There is an alternative to using Wine on Linux and that is a program called Crossover Linux from Codeweavers that might help e-Sword function better

#46070 Creating Bible Modules with Strong's Numbers

Posted by Tj Higgins on 15 March 2024 - 10:18 AM in e-Sword Tools & Utilities

Tj,

Having used UniqueBible by Eliran Wong, I believe that he creates e-Sword modules with added Strong's numbers by approaching the problem from a different direction.  My greatly over-simplified explanation of how this method appears to work is:

Decide which Greek and/or Hebrew your Bible version will be based on.

Create a database index in numerical order for each Greek and/or Hebrew word, starting in Genesis 1 and/or Matthew 1 as entry 000001.

Add the correct Strong's Number to the database as a record for each Greek and/or Hebrew word indexed.

Finally add the English language translation as another record for each Greek and/or Hebrew word indexed.

Take for example a database starting with Matthew 1:1.  The Index and records would start out looking something like this:

000001    Βίβλος   G976   [The] book

000002    γενέσεως  G1078    of [the] genealogy

000003    Ἰησοῦ   G2424   of Jesus

000004    Χριστοῦ   G5547     Christ

The numerical index doesn't change.  The Greek word order doesn't change.  The Strong's numbers don't change.  The only thing that really changes is your English translation.  You don't need to completely re-invent the wheel as you can reuse open source data that is already out on the Internet.  You may choose to combine some Strong's numbers to make better sense in English, for example the word "throughout" in the verse below has both H5704 and H7097 Strong's numbers:

Psa 46:9  He brings an end to H7673 wars H4421 throughout H5704 H7097 the earth H776; he shatters H7665 the bow H7198 and breaks H7112 the spear H2595; he burns H8313 the shields with fire H784.

The programs that you can use to manipulate the data could vary.  Notepad++ is quite powerful and accepts regex expressions.  Microsoft Excel with .csv files may be useful.  Probably want to finish the module using DB Browser for SQLite

I'm not saying that any of this is easy or fast, or that I'm an expert.  I'm just saying that if you want to get to the finish line, this may be a way to go about it.

     ElderB

I have looked and Eliran's e-Sword modules using DB Browser but they are not set up the way you outlined.
