#21558 Question about scanners

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 14 July 2014 - 07:46 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Thanks, Josh. Good to know the files are so big like mine.

I don't know if it will be useful but there is an amazing app for Win (freeware) to remove white space around PDF files. It is called PDF Cropper: http://www.noliturba...ols/pdf-cropper

(…) Ellicott's commentary was 29 gigs scanned in PDF.

#21555 Question about scanners

Taking advantage of the topic which is a good configuration to scan a book (DPI, b&w or grey etc.)?

I have a epson L210 multifunctional and I scanned a book to read on iPad but a simple 100 pages book created a +200mb file.  :blink:

#19685 Inserting line breaks before numbers in a text

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 14 December 2013 - 05:50 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Josh, I tested other formula that solved it in one step. I noticed that there is space before the verse number, no matter how it ends the previous verse (exclamation, comma etc.). So I used:

Find: ([0-9]) -- [one space]([0-9])

Replace:^p\1 -- [no space]^p\1

But as you said it would create a false positive. But I think all number on this bible are written without abbreviation. At this time I am converting NT only. So it would not be a problem.

Thanks one more time. The 'use wildcards' is a very interesting feature that I did not know even existed.

#19677 Inserting line breaks before numbers in a text

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 14 December 2013 - 01:19 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Thanks a lot, Josh. Worked pretty well.

Just let me know if I am doing something wrong: the formula "Find: . ([0-9]) Replace: . ^p\1" replace verses ending in '.' (point), right?

So what I am doing is changing it to:

Find: , ([0-9]) Replace: , ^p\1 or

Find: ? ([0-9]) Replace: ? ^p\1

and other terminations like:   ;   :   "   ?"   !"   to change other verses. Is is correct?

#19674 Inserting line breaks before numbers in a text

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 14 December 2013 - 11:24 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

I downloaded a bible and I'd like to convert it to e-sword. It is a .txt and the verses has no breaks (example bellow).

I'd like to inserting line breaks before numbers because do this manually would be painful. I found an answer on google but I do not how to implement it (http://stackoverflow...mbers-in-a-text)

So does anyone know an app to do this?

Mateus 1

#19397 How do I stop Pocket e-Sword from always starting at John 3:16

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 15 November 2013 - 02:45 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hooah!!

Very wise choice, my brother, a very wise choice…  :)

Take a look here (maybe you will find it interesting): http://www.faithcome...litary-outreach

(here you can also download an audio bible clicking on tab 'Free Audio Bible' and transfer to your Axim. Sometimes I am tired at night and I prefer to listen instead to read the bible and it is being a blessing).

Hiroshi.

#19385 How do I stop Pocket e-Sword from always starting at John 3:16

Well, I looked up about your name and really got a surprise.   :blink:

In portuguese idiom, as in greek, we also have the termination 'ias', as in the names Zacarias, Sofonias, Malaquias etc. So the first time that I read your name I thought: "It seems like a hebrew name in greek transcription".

BUT, when I took a look in the OT I did not find any person with this name. So I decided to google it. And here was my surprise.

I found a very interesting article about your name, namely, "JAMES THE JUST, AND HIS NAME "OBLIAS" by CHARLES C. TORREY". Then, my surprise was that I never heard about James (iakobos) had this nickname. In Torrey words:

"IN the earliest biographical notices of James the brother of Jesus, he is given a curious title, or nickname, which has defied all attempts at explanation. It is given out as a Semitic name in Greek transcription; and the fact that it is expressly interpreted has only increased the difficulty, for there has been found no satisfactory way of connecting the interpretation with any Semitic word or words which could fit the Greek homophone. The only clue to the precise meaning of the title is the obvious fact that it is applied to James as the head of the Christian community in Jerusalem (…) James, the bishop of jerusalem, was given the title in question as the guardian, the protector, of his flock (…) The designation of the bishop of the church of jerusalem as the protector of his people is most fitting, for the Christians were persecuted and in constant danger. The term applied to him is handed down, in its Greek transcription, in one unvarying form, and no reason has appeared for questioning the correctness of the tradition. It remains to ascertain the Semitic original which the Greek represents. As soon as the attempt is made to find an Aramaic or Hebrew equivalent of Ωβλιας very serious difficulty is encountered. There is no Semitic root containing bl that comes anywhere near meeting the requirement".

Is that true, I mean, is this the real meaning?

Well, paraphrasing our brother Paul, not as though we had already obtained, either already perfect, but it is better than before… In fact it is the first time that I heard about this bug. I think there is no support for PES anymore because Windows Mobile was abandoned, despite the fact it is a great mobile system.

Ah, on celestial city, it will be easy to find me: just search a guy with a beautiful white robe.  ;)

God bless you too.

#19373 How do I stop Pocket e-Sword from always starting at John 3:16

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 13 November 2013 - 12:33 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Well, let's go by parts…  ^_^

1. unfortunately my premise was not correct. Today I tested PES on Windows Mobile Emulator and I could see that it can remember chapter/versicle even with the bible strings blanks (it means, <setting key="Popup Bible" value="" /> AND <setting key="Reading Bible" value="" />).

2. fortunately the 'trick' solved the problem a little, I mean, at least PES can remember book and chapter. Not perfect, but better.

3. 'Strong popup' is used for dictionaries. In fact you already have one:

 <Dictionaries>
    <dictionary key="KJC" value="King James Concordance" path="\CF Card\Pocket e-Sword\kjc.dct" flags="1" />
  </Dictionaries>

Then, if you use a bible with Strong, you can click on Strong number to see the word definition in original greek/hebrew. Brown-Driver-Briggs and Thayer are very good freeware dictionaries, as ISBE (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia).

4. I think the register has nothing to do with this bug.

So, what could be done to try to solve this annoying problem?  :rolleyes:

(a) I figured out that PES can run without 'Pocket e-Sword.config' file (in fact PES will create it again). So connect via AS, move 'Pocket e-Sword.config' to your desktop and run PES to see what happens.

(b.) Try to install PES on Axim main memory (ok to modules at CF). I was thinking it could be a problem with SQLCE that PES install at /windows folder.

Lets see…

My ideas are running out…  :ph34r:

Oh! Now I think what is the problem.  :lol:

For an unknown reason PES is not saving your preference (maybe an issue to recognize your CF card). A comparative between 'pocket e-sword.config' files:

Yours:

  <Settings>

    <setting key="Resource Path" value="\CF Card\Pocket e-Sword" />

    <setting key="Reading Filename" value="" />

    <setting key="Notes Path" value="\My Documents" />

    <setting key="Note Filename" value="" />

    <setting key="Bookmark Collection" value="Default" />

    <setting key="Bible" value="KJVR" />

    <setting key="Parallel Bible 1" value="MKJV" />

    <setting key="Parallel Bible 2" value="(None)" />

    <setting key="Parallel Bible 3" value="(None)" />

    <setting key="Parallel Bible 4" value="(None)" />

    <setting key="Commentary" value="Henry" />

    <setting key="Dictionary" value="KJC" />               *despite the fact that you have installed a dictionary it is not shown here

    <setting key="Devotional" value="" />                     *same thing here with devotional

    <setting key="Strong Popup" value="" />

    <setting key="Popup Bible" value="" />

    <setting key="Reading Bible" value="" />

    <setting key="Reference" value="Rev 2:1" />        *here you can see PES remember the last versicle that you read, but no bible is selected

    <setting key="Text Size" value="2" />

  </Settings>

Mine:

  <Settings>
    <setting key="Resource Path" value="\My Storage\Pocket e-sword" />
    <setting key="Reading Filename" value="" />
    <setting key="Notes Path" value="\My Storage" />
    <setting key="Note Filename" value="\My Storage\test.rtf" />
    <setting key="Bookmark Collection" value="" />
    <setting key="Bible" value="ACF2007" />
    <setting key="Parallel Bible 1" value="NVI" />
    <setting key="Parallel Bible 2" value="ACF2007" />
    <setting key="Parallel Bible 3" value="(None)" />
    <setting key="Parallel Bible 4" value="(None)" />
    <setting key="Commentary" value="Barnes" />
    <setting key="Dictionary" value="Thayer" />
    <setting key="Devotional" value="Spurgeon" />
    <setting key="Strong Popup" value="Thayer" />
    <setting key="Popup Bible" value="ACF2007" />
    <setting key="Reading Bible" value="ACF2007" />
    <setting key="Reference" value="Php 1:9" />
    <setting key="Text Size" value="1" />
  </Settings>

So, lets try to edit your 'pocket e-sword.config' file. Just sync your Axim to PC via ActiveSync -> Go to PES folder -> Copy 'pocket e-sword.config' to your PC (backup it for safety) -> Right click on it and select 'Open with…" and choose WordPad. Now edit this 2 strings:

    <setting key="Popup Bible" value="" />

    <setting key="Reading Bible" value="" />

Lets say you are using KJVR. Then:

    <setting key="Popup Bible" value="KJVR" />

    <setting key="Reading Bible" value="KJVR" />

Save 'pocket e-sword.config'. Copy it to PES folder (in fact, overwrite it). Run PES. Lets see what will happen.  ^_^

Hummm… :unsure:

Other shots:

1. Try to rename the folder that you have your modules (mine is 'Pocket e-sword')

2. Try to install PES at the same place that your modules are (in this case, CF card)

3. Take a look if the number that you have on the string 'Role' is 0x28 (40). You find it at : HKEY_Local_Machine\Security\AppInstall\Pocket e-Sword (if you do not have a registry editor, you can download a PC freeware here: http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl )

4. If you want I can check your PES config. Just upload your file: 'Pocket e-Sword.config' at: \Program Files\Pocket e-Sword:

Strange… I am using pocket e-sword (pes) too and it is only occurs (I mean, pes opens on John 3:16) at the first that the application runs. So, I think some things:

1. Try to select other versicle on Modern KJ Version, close the pes and open it again.

2. Does pes and the folder with modules are installed at the same place (sd card)?

The last option is reinstall pes to see whats going on.

#19328 How do I stop Pocket e-Sword from always starting at John 3:16

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 10 November 2013 - 04:08 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Hi and very welcome.

Have you installed the last version of pocket e-sword - for Axim it is v.3.0.1 that you can find here: http://www.e-sword.net/pocketpc/

Other thing: if you have other modules installed (bibles, commentaries etc.), did you correctly target the resource? You can check it on pocket e-sword at: 'View' - 'Resource Location'.

Or: if you do not have any other module installed, try to download one (a bible, just for test), put in on selected folder and run the app again. Select your preferred bible and close/reopen the app to see.

Keep us informed.

#19016 Can I get the notes that I made in Pocket eSword over to MySword?

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 10 October 2013 - 09:23 AM in MySword

I am also using pocket e-sword (good to see that someone still uses it) but I do not use notes feature. So I created one and I realized that it was saved as a .rtf file.

So connect your device to your PC (ActiveSync) and open the folder that you save your notes (maybe at sd card or main memory) and import them to PC.

Now I think you can use the Migration Tools at http://www.mysword.i...migration-tools to convert the .rtf file (please, My Sword's experts correct me if I am wrong because I do not use this app too much).

question to others.  can sQlite read the pes?

Pes files? Nope. I have tried 3 apps at osx to read them but no success.

#18930 Issues with conversion to ios format for iPad app

Posted by Hiroshi.Rio on 02 October 2013 - 10:09 AM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

The window caption may say that the window is not responding, but the program is still running.  Just WAIT.  :-)

True. Sometimes, speciality with bibles, it seems the app is freezing.  :rolleyes:

Has anyone noticed that the new version (1.1.2) is converting strong numbers as plain text? Something like this:

INSERT INTO "Bible" VALUES (1, 1, 3, 'Disse H559 [H8799] Deus: H430 Haja H1961 [H8799] luz; H216 e houve luz. H216
