Official Description (2012 Edition)
These Bible Study Notes are some of the most comprehensible that you may find anywhere to help you study God's word.

Written by Dr. Thomas L. Constable over a 25-year period, these notes provide commentary on all 66 books of the Bible, and contain more than 7,000 pages of material. Dr. Constable's Notes, also known as expository notes to Dr. Constable's seminary students, are intended to help you to better understand the Bible.

In addition to the verse-by-verse explanations of the entire Bible, extra resources include historical background, scope, purpose, theology, and outline information on the individual books. Thousands of footnote references are a helpful source for further, more in-depth study.

In the preface, Dr. Constable says, “The following are notes that I have prepared from my own study of the Scriptures. I distribute them to my students in my Bible classes at Dallas Theological Seminary and have done so for many years. I have also made some of them available to the people in my church. They provide more information than a study Bible, but they are less technical than many commentaries.”

About Dr. Constable’s Notes
Dr. Constable expounds Scripture form a theologically conservative, evangelical viewpoint.

Dr. David Thomason summarizes Dr. Constable’s scholarship: “Dr. Constable strikes the nearly perfect balance of academic accuracy with student simplicity. It does what a good commentary should do: rightly & reverently explain the text.”

To understand the depth of this commentary, imagine the printed edition of Dr. Constable’s Notes next to a copy of Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible: Complete and Unabridged. With over 7,000 pages, Dr. Constable's Expository Bible Study Notes are almost three times larger than Matthew Henry’s Commentary!

How the commentary works in e-Sword
Using e-Sword’s ability to “overlap” comments, the Notes are section by section, paragraph by paragraph, and verse by verse.

Broader comments about the paragraph, chapter, or section appear at the beginning of a comment. Verse specific comments appear near the bottom of the comment. Book and Chapter comments also provide broad commentary.

All Bible books contain a Bibliography; and many contain a “Conclusion”, Appendices, and Maps. All such material was relocated to the end of the Book Comments.

The e-Sword module contains over 95 megabytes of data, including diagrams, tables, maps, and charts.

Preface
The following are notes that I have prepared from my own study of the Scriptures. I distribute them to my students in my Bible classes at Dallas Theological Seminary and have done so for many years. I have also made some of them available to the people in my church. They provide more information than a study Bible, but they are less technical than many commentaries.

These are working documents. As you will notice, they each have a year edition number. I am constantly upgrading, adding to, and changing these notes. Whenever I teach a class and distribute them, I print out the most current edition and name it for the year in which I teach the class. So the edition year indicates the last time I taught the book using the notes.

In addition to the notes, you may also access Dr. Constable’s expositions of several Bible books he have delivered to his adult Sunday school class over several years. Samples of the series can be monitored at this site. The series are available for purchase from this site.

Special Thanks To...
David Fair of Psalm4.org who secured written permission from Dr. Constable to publish this material in e-Sword format on BibleSupport.com. David began the project, completing much of the New Testament.

James Rice for keeping this moving.

Dr. Constable for giving us permission to publish what is now the best, non-technical commentary available for e-Sword.
