4/8/2012 - Hebrew appearing words in reverse order because RTF charset set to 0 instead of 177. Thanks to Ray for the problem and solution.
4/7/2012 - Vowel points corrected. Requires Hebrew SBL font for proper vowel display, default on most Windows PCs. Thanks Ray...

Andrew Bruce Davidson was Professor of Hebrew and Oriental languages in New College, University of Edinburgh. He furnished many important articles for the Bible Dictionary edited by Dr. James Hastings.

Davidson wrote several textbooks, including this Introductory to Hebrew Grammar, which has been (and still is) used by countless seminaries. The main principles of Syntax are printed in larger type, and the less common, poetical or anomalous, usages thrown into the form of notes. The illustrative examples, at least the earlier ones in each case, have been taken as much as possible from the classical prose, but references have been multiplied, partly in order that the principle illustrated may be seen in various connexions, and partly under the impression that the references might be useful in forming exercises for Prose Composition; and the purposes of composition have been had in view in the form given to a number of the sections.

Several points in Syntax are still involved in some obscurity, such as the use of the Imperfect, and its interchange with other tenses, especially in poetry; and the use of the Jussive, particularly in later writings. What has been said on these points, if it do nothing more, will make intelligible the state of the question regarding them.

  • Uploaded Mac/e-sword 11 version.

Over my years of teaching Hebrew I have used 6 different Hebrew grammars, and have found Davidson's the most satisfactory overall. It is wonderful that this is now available on e-Sword.
After looking at the downloaded file in e-Sword I note that in Windows 7 at least the vowels seem to not line up with the correct consonant. I hope this can be fixed.
e-Sword's preferred Titus Cyberbit Basic isn't compatible with the vowels. Changed font to SBL Hebrew, at Ray's recommendation, and it works now.
I checked all of the Hebrew fonts installed on my machine. They all show the correct pointing in the Keil & Delitzch commentary. I notice this also on my Android phone with Logos Hebrew OT. Woe!
I meant to say in the above note that although all of the Hebrew fonts in my Win7 machine work properly in K&D, none of them align the vowel markers correctly with the consonants.

Did you download the updated version?
I just re-installed the book and now everything is perfect. e-Sword Davidson's Grammar will be used by students in Kenya. The printed version is just too expensive. Many, many thanks.

Great download but I have the same problem with the hebrew fonts, the vowels points don't line up,, how do I get SBL hebrew fonts, it's not on Esword?

 Thank You,

How can I download this book for my android Mysword?

¡Gracias! ¡Thank You!
