Don't like a current tab name (abbreviation) for a Bible, commentary, dictionary, devotional, etc? Something taking too much space?

This program lets you change the tab name without any technical knowledge! You can also change the tab name description visible when you hover the mouse over the tab abbreviation in e-Sword.

Technically challenged? No problem! Use this self installing application.

Compatibility
Works on all e-Sword PC 9-11 resources and Apple modules. Also works on official resources.

Steps:
  • Click "Open module" and browse to the module (*.bblx, *.cmtx, *.dctx, *.mapx, *.harx, ...)
  • The current description and tab names will be displayed.
  • Change them to whatever you want and click "Update"
  • Close the app.
WARNING:
Do not use the same tab names as the official e-Sword resources. For example, you cannot name a Bible resource "NIV". e-Sword will not display your Bible resource because that tab name is reserved for official e-Sword resources.

What's New in Version 1.5 (See full changelog)

  • September 9, 2016: Minor bug fixes
  • September 2, 2016: No coding changes. I added a code signing certificate to both the installer exe and the tab renamer exe to avoid most virus/malware warnings. This identifies the program as being from "Bible Support".
  • August 2016:
  • Reset the creation date of the file listing.
  • Fixed the issue with admin/elevated rights.
  • Added support for Apple modules.
  • All 9-11/Apple modules, even official resources, can now be changed.

This tool is GREAT! And easy to use.
Thanks - this works great.

Thanks for your effort.... tried but wouldn't bring my older MSG version (before paid for version) so it could be used with version 10.1. Any ideas?

Great!

It worked!

Thank you so much!

Just what I've been looking for.

Really makes e-sword easier to use.

Looks useful, but limited and "blind" in that it only changes tabs one-at-a-time, when your entire library may need the overhaul.

I really like the e-sword Library Manager, posted by the same Mr. Barone.
http://www.biblesupp...ibrary-manager/

In any case, it is easy to get a very extensive library for e-Sword here at Biblesupport.com, and if you use the full tab names, the tabs alone can take up ¾ (or more) of the e-Sword screen!

For me, the year of publication works really well as the name for most Bible translation tabs, and a single word usually works well for dictionaries and commentaries with the full name available on the tool tip (a.k.a. "hover over" or "Description") setting.

Blessings be yours in abundance!

Hi Anthony,

Usually, once I've downloaded either a Bible, dictionary, or a commentary, if the tab name has more than five characters, I change it. I open the "new" resource in SQLite Manager, because its a lot quicker due to the fact its on my Firefox web browser. For example, Using a resource I'm currently working on, the Maori Bible, the abbreviation for the Tab is MB, and in the Details record (which is used for the tool tip) I have, Paipera Tapu (Holy Bible in Te Reo Maori)

This makes life so much simpler, and keeps the size of the tabs down to a minimum. I don't think one really needs more and 4 or 5 characters in abbreviated format for tab names.

Blessings,

Uh, er, it keeps saying it needs elevated rights.  It closes and restarts but same message.  I tried running as administator but no success.  Some guidance please.

What is it that needs elevated rights that you're talking about? Could you please expand on this so that either someone or my myself can give you a more filler explanation or something else that may help you.

Thanks for this very nice utility.

I've renamed all my Bible Tabs and, unfortunately, there is no control over the size of the tabs.  Before, my tabs' width were no more than the Abbreviation required.  This allowed me to have only one row of tabs, instead on multiple rows, and a lot of wasted space.

Is there a way to revert the tab size to only the space required?  Otherwise, I need to do whatever to get the originals back.  And if so, will uninstalling the Bible modules, and then re-installing, return them as before?  The problem there is, I no longer have some of the modules, as some are on .bblx form only, and now they have been modified, I presume.

So I would appreciate any help you guys can provide.

God Bless.

IveyLeager....

I don't know if this will help you or not.....Since you are concerned mostly about "One Row" of tabs....you can do this: When the e-Sword program is open....click on "Options"....in the "Options DropDown" click on "Resources". Then in the "Resources" window at the bottom left-hand corner....you can click in the small box that says:"Display Tabs in a Single Row". this may work for you.
