e-Sword Version:
e-Sword 8.x and below

This description will be updated soon. If you would like to submit a description, enter it in the Reviews section below.

After downloading this executable file and running it, I confirmed that the .top file was where it was supposed to be. However, I think there may be a problem with the extension. I tried changing the extension to .topx and it showed up in the e-sword reference library but the file was blank (i.e.no text was showing). But when I changed the extension back to .top, it would not show up in the reference library any longer.

"The Book of Enoch.top" is for e-Sword version 8.x modules only; not for newer e-Sword versions 9/10/11/12. Suggestion: Search for "Enoch" and option "e-Sword downloads" and select another version.
The filename "All the books of Enoch.topx" gets downloaded to the folder where the PC is downloading files. Similarly "Charles, R.H. - The Book of Enoch English Translation.topx" Similarly "The 2nd book of Enoch.topx"
The PC needs to know how to process the .topx file and to copy that file to your e-Sword folder.
Check settings: Choose default applications by file type. See if .topx is associated correctly with moduleinstaller.exe
If the file extension is not allocated redownload moduleinstaller.exe from Bible Support. Run it.
If your PC is 64-bit then this will install into folder C:\Program Files\e-Sword Module Installer and all the e-Sword filename extensions will be listed and will be assigned to moduleinstaller.exe
Then when you click on the .topx downloaded file, it will be copied to the e-Sword folder.
Alternatively, if the downloaded file is selected where it downloaded, use option "Copy" then this can be "Paste" to the working e-Sword folder. Then open e-Sword. Click on the Reference Library icon. The file is seen in the Reference Library window, not in the Bible window.

The Book of Enoch – for use with e-Sword version 8 and previous versions of e-Sword.

As last updated, Jun 91, 2011, there is one downloadable module provided by Bible Support:

[1] The Book of Enoch.top.exe      381.6K

This is a setup Wizard, designed to place the module in the folder where e-Sword files are located on your PC.

If your PC security refuses to allow “exe” files to be downloaded, append “.docx” to the filename. After downloading, view the “Properties” of the file, and if there is a security block added, “Security: “This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.” Notice that there will be an empty check box, “Unblock”. Move the pointer over the check box, select this, and you will see a checkbox containing a tick. The “Apply” button, which had been greyed out, will now appear. Select “Apply” and “OK”. Browse to the file, and edit the filename, to remove the added “.docx”. You will see the Rename warning message, “Rename. If you change a filename extension, the file might become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?” and will see two options, “Yes”, and “No”. Select the “Yes” option, because you do want the PC to allow you to change the filename. Now run the installation Wizard, which will enable you to install the module into the e-Sword folder.

This *.top module is designed for the PC which is running e-Sword version 8 or earlier.

If you are running a PC with e-Sword version 9 or later, select another option from Bible support. For example:

  • Charles, T. H. – The Book of Enoch in English Translation
  • All the Books of Enoch
  • 2nd Enoch
  • The Lost Books of Eden - The Forgotten Books of Eden, including The Secrets of Enoch

The modules provided by Bible Support that were designed for the PC running e-Sword version 8 were designed to be viewed from the Topics Editor window, and not from the Reference Library, which was only introduced into e-Sword for the PC in November 2011 with the release of e-Sword version 10. To read about the evolution and development of the e-Sword application, access the history of the development of e-Sword, as provided by Rick Meyers, the developer, on the website, on the ABOUT option.

When you download a recent version of e-Sword for the PC, you will also receive a copy of the USER GUIDE (see the picture on the FEATURES tab from Rick Meyers's website). You will find e-sword_guide.pdf in the C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword folder where your other e-Sword modules are located. I think you will find the document fascinating to read.

How to view the *.top file on a PC running a later version of e-Sword. This method will convert the *.top file into a *.topx file, if it is not protected with a password. If it is password protected the *.topx file will display no content.

Open e-Sword, and open the Topics Editor. Use the option for the Editor Maximized (Ctrl+F5). Move your pointer into the Topic Notes screen, and tap the left mouse button, so that the PC knows the context in which to find your pointer. Press the left Ctrl key on the computer keyboard, and while you hold this down, hover your pointer over the open window, and click the right mouse button. You will see a menu with the following options: New … ; Open … ; Import … ; Export … ; Convert to Reference Book … . Select the OPEN option. You can now let go of the Ctrl key. A new screen window, titled “Open Topic Notes File” will open. On the right of the “File name:” selection box, you will see an option in the lower right of the screen, to select files with the format “Topic Note Files (*.topx)” and you will notice that there is also another dialogue selection option available there. Move the pointer over that selection down-arrow, and there you will see that there is a second option, “Old Topic Note Files (*.top)”. Select this second option. Now you will be searching for files with the “.top” file type in the file name. Now browse your way into the folder into which the “top” file was placed, which will probably be in This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > e-sword. You will be looking for “The Book of Enoch.top” When you find it, select that. What will occur, is that this module filename will be renamed as “The Book of Enoch.top.old" and a new file will open, in your Topics Editor, with the name “The Book of Enoch.topx”.

You can also open that file by hovering the pointer over the filename, to highlight it, and left click, and press the "OPEN" button on the lower right of your screen.

In the “File name” window at the bottom of the screen, tap the pointer on the little down arrow at the extreme right end of the window, and you will see the list of files of the format that you recently accessed, which have the filename extension that you are currently searching for.

WARNING: If you open a file from a different file location, the Topic Notes Editor shows only the Topic Note files from that folder in the popup menu at the bottom of the Editor window. That means the popup menu will show only the filename in the folder where you opened the file.

Read more about the Topics Note Editor from Page 147 in the e-Sword User Guide. You will find a copy of this e-Sword user guide on your PC after you have loaded a recent version of e-Sword for the PC. The location of the e-Sword User Guide will be on your PC, and can be found using the following path This PC  >  Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > e-sword >  e-sword_guide.pdf

If the *.top file was in the C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword folder and the *.topx file is now created in the same folder, then you will now be able to view that *.topx file from the e-Sword Reference Library Window. This facility was provided for e-Sword for the PC since the release of e-Sword version 10.4 in July 2014.

To view additional options provided for e-Sword since the issue of the e-Sword User Guide, you can view the History of e-Sword on the ABOUT tab on the developer, Rick Meyer’s website, herehttps://www.e-sword.net/history.html For recent developments of e-Sword for the PC, you can view more details here. https://www.e-sword.net/changes.html

If the *.top file was still in your download folder, you will have to move the file to the required folder.

001. THE BOOK OF ENOCH TRANSLATED BY R. H. CHARLES, D.LITT., D.D. WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY W. O. E. OESTERLEY, D.D. London. Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge. [1917]

002. p. vi EDITORS' PREFACE

THE object of this series of translations is primarily to furnish students with short, cheap, and handy text-books, which, it is hoped, will facilitate the study of the particular texts in class under competent teachers. But it is also hoped that the volumes will be acceptable to the general reader who may be interested in the subjects with which they deal. It has been thought advisable, as a general rule, to restrict the notes and comments to a small compass; more especially as, in most cases, excellent works of a more elaborate character are available. Indeed, it is much to be desired that these translations may have the effect of inducing readers to study the larger works.

Our principal aim, in a word, is to make some difficult texts, important for the study of Christian origins, more generally accessible in faithful and scholarly translations.

In most cases these texts are not available in a cheap and handy form. In one or two cases texts have been included of books which are available in the official Apocrypha; but in every such case reasons exist for putting forth these texts in a new translation, with an Introduction, in this series.

W. O. E. OESTERLEY.

The Book of Enoch.top.exe       381.6K

This is a setup Wizard, designed to place the module in the folder where e-Sword files are located on your PC. The default folder is faulty, as: C:\Users\user\Documents\e-Sword\e-Sword because this creates an extra sub-folder to the "e-Sword\e-Sword\ path for the destination location of the file, The Book of Enoch.top. You will need to copy and paste the file to the correct location, where you will want to expect to find the relevant *.top and *.topx files in future. If you do not notice in which folder the destination file is placed by the setup wizard, you may find it difficult to find the relevant file in future.
