James Smith was a predecessor of Charles Spurgeon at New Park Street Chapel in London from 1841 until 1850. Early on, Smith's readings were even more popular than Spurgeon's! Read his personal testimony.
My object is to lead the mind . . .
from SELF — to Jesus;
from sin — to salvation;
from the troubles of life — to the comforts of the gospel.
My aim is to humble the sinner — and to exalt the Savior; to strip the creature — and to place the crown on the head of God's free grace! I cannot ascribe too much to Jesus — or too little to man!

"Daily food for The Lords flock" & "Fruit from the tree of Life" are but a couple of titles from this glorious collection, as they sound their clarion calls across the years....... "James Smith. September 29, 1859. I write for the press more than ever, and am still encouraged by accounts of the Lord's blessing attending what I write. I am now evidently getting old fast, I feel it, and therefore I wish to work while I can. The opportunity must be seized now, if ever--or it will soon be gone, and be gone forever "
We thank you Sir, for the continuation of your endeavours in putting pen to paper.
