DEVILS, DEMONS AND BIBLICAL TRUTH
(A series of articles in the Australian Christadelphian Shield of 1995)

INTRODUCTION

In January 1993 a farmer’s wife in Victoria, Australia died whilst being exorcised of a so-called "demon," and during the much publicized manslaughter trial that followed, it became increasingly obvious that some people today most certainly believe in demon possession, and the practice of exorcism should not be dismissed as innocuous ritual of religious cranks. This series is an attempt to explain such happenings in the light of biblical teaching and to come to grips with a subject which has proved bewildering to many who are reluctant to accept that intelligent evil forces exist which are in total opposition to God.

Contrary to what a casual reader of the Bible might think, biblical terms such as "devils," "demons," "evil spirits" "Satan" etc. represent less than 1% of Scripture content and are never given a high profile. However, it is our intention to examine some of them at least, and also to investigate reported cases of paranormal phenomena to discover if there is any scriptural justification for claims that supernatural evil forces are at work amongst us

The series is divided into: - Paranormal Phenomena - Mind Powers - An Explanation - Demons in the Bible - The "Devil" - Conclusion

What's New in Version 1.0 (See full changelog)

  • Uploaded Mac/e-sword 11 version.

After the update, 2022-01-16, there are two files which are provided. Please select the appropriate file which is applicable to your version of e-Sword, on your specific device.

If you would like to view the file through the Topic Editor, then download the *.topx file, and arrange to copy that downloaded file to the second folder which you noticed in the "Options", "Resource Settings..." window.

If you download and run the e-Sword Module Installer, provided by bible support, that will assist you to copy the downloaded file to the relevant directory, if you are running on a microsoft windows PC. This comes into operation when you click on a downloaded e-Sword module, which is not zipped, and the Module Installer will assist you to copy the file to the relevant folder, as linked in the "Options", "Resource Settings..." option. HINT: If you want your PC to access the modules in another directory, change the details in the "Options", "Resource Settings...", windows, and restart e-Sword, and e-Sword will then use your selected drive, and folders.

  • Option: 1)  Edwards, Malcolm - Devils, Demons and Biblical Truth.topx
  • Option: 2) edwards_malcolm_-_devils_demons_and_biblical_truth.refi
  • Which file should I download?
  • If you are running e-Sword version 12.2 or version 13.0.0 on the Microsoft operating system, open e-Sword, look in "Options", "Resource Settings...",  then in the Resource Options dialog window, select "Reference Books", and look at the two windows near the bottom of this display window. One is "Resources Location". Typically this is at C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\
  • The second window is "User Files Location". This is where you place the files which you want to be able to view through the Editors. Make a note of what the folder is. This is where you copy the Topics Files which you want to be able to edit, if you would like to do so, and where you have your personal e-Sword files. You will be able to browse to the file through the Topics Editor windows options.
  • The directory listed in the first window option, is where you want to place the file which you download from biblesupport.com. Select either the first file option (the *.topx) file, or the second option, (the *.refi file), and download tthat specific file to your device; then arrange to copy the downloaded file to the listed folder. You will then be able to read the document using the option "Tools", "Reference Library...", and browse to the relevant file name. The Reference Library is also accessable from the Reference Library icon on the row of icons.
  • If you are running e-Sword on a Microsoft operating system, using e-Sword version 9, or 10, and later, you can copy the *.topx file to either folder, and then view the *.topx files in the appropriate window, either through the Editors, or through the Reference Library window option.
If you are running e-Sword version 12.2.2 or e-Sword version 13, then you can view the *.refi file (which has been converted with the Apple convert app, from Rick Meyers), through the Reference Library window option.  You will see details explained in the E-Sword Users Guide, which you can open by using the keyboard shortcut "F1" while e-Sword is running. Read page 2.
  • If you are running e-Sword on any of the touch-screen devices, such as for the Apple Mac, the iPhone, the iPad, the iPod, or the Android device, then download only the *.refi file to your device. None of the e-Sword file names which have a file type with the format having the fourth letter as "x", such as "*.topx", will run in the touch-screen devices; they use an e-Sword file type with the fourth letter "i", such as "*.refi". Then please browse to https://www.e-sword.net/ and select the LINKS option. Select the relevant version of e-Sword, and tap on that link. On the web page on which you will land, select the FAQ option. Then read the instructions from Rick Meyers, as to how to transfer the downloaded file, which you have downloaded to your device, or have emailed it to your device, so that it will be transferred into e-Sword running on your specific device. Follow the instructions provided by Rick Meyers. Restart e-Sword to view the new files. If you have a problem, identify accurately all steps you took, and contact Rick Meyers directly. His email address is rick@e-sword.net
  • On each of the varieties of e-Sword, on https://www.e-sword.net/ after selecting the type of E-Sword from the LINKS option, you can see the screen options available to you by selecting the FEATURES option. You will notice that each version of e-Sword is not identical. Some can access items by using the touch-screen options; and from the iPad version you can actually send Bible quotes to your friends. If you have further suggestions for development of options for your version of e-Sword, please contact the developer on the CONTACT option, and explain how your suggestion could probably work, based on the existing screen FEATURES options now provided for your use of your Bible Study software resources.
