Psalms 8:3 When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained;
I love the Word of God. Every word is meaningful and powerful. Nothing is by chance nor chosen by the skillful penship of man but that of the choosing of the Holy Spirit. The word “consider” is in bold and italicized because I want to share about this English word. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and it’s a beautiful descriptive language in and of itself. Yet, even the languages it is translated into have the imprint of God’s handiwork in it.
The word “consider” comes from two languages. 13th century Old French considerer meaning to "reflect upon, consider, study," Also, from Latin considerare "to look at closely, observe," Considerare is comprised of two parts. Com which means"with" and sidus/sideris meaning "constellation.” So, to observe the constellation or stars! In other words, it implies to put into as much effort into observation as you would studying the stars i.e. as here “the heavens.” When we consider a thing we take time to reflect and pull our thoughts together in order to formulate an opinion i.e. to state one’s thoughts and/or understanding. This Hebrew word rā’āh can mean to see with the eyes or to see/observe within the mind. Yet, in this entire context the word “gaze” becomes synonymous here. It’s a gazing within your mind-thoughts. You’ve heard of star-gazing right? Well it connects here as well.
I want to share 12 of the 66 verses where “consider” is found in the King James Version (the one Jesus preached from - haha):
Deu 4:39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD He is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.
Deu 8:5 Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
1Sa 12:24 Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things He hath done for you.
Job 37:14 Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
Psa 8:3 When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast ordained;
Ecc 7:13 Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which He hath made crooked?
Ecc 7:14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after Him.
Isa_41:20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
Isa 43:18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Mat 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Luk 12:24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: CONSIDER - GAZE WITHIN YOUR MIND - THINK AND REFLECT UPON AS IF YOU WERE STAR-GAZING!!!
Just another means for us to dwell upon the Word of God richly and renew our minds.
