What's Love Got To Do With It?

What's Love Got To Do With It?

As I sit here in my study, trying to write, I am looking at two pictures on the wall before me. In one we see Jesus sitting on the Mount of Olives overlooking Jerusalem (Mat_23:37) and in the other we see Him at the well talking to an outcast women, a Samaritan (Joh_4:7-26). What is the common thread? In a word “LOVE”.

How does God show His love? In the beginning God created .. US. (Gen_1:27) God did not and does not need us to know love. God in Himself is Love (1Jn_4:8). The scriptures first to last are all about God's love for His creation (Gen_1:1; Joh_3:16-17; Rev_22:21)

Look to Jesus. Here we have God in the flesh, our sinless saviour, who of His own choice went to the cross “I lay down my life” (Joh_10:17). This Jesus who is “the Saviour of the world” (Joh_1:29; 1Jn_4:14), who not only paid my sin debt, “but also for those of the whole world” (1Jn_2:2; 1Jn_4:10).

All that come to Him can be saved "WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED." (Joh_5:24; Joh_12:32; Rom_10:12-13). Jesus' shed blood has provided the way of salvation through His finished work upon the cross “..Christ died for our sins..” (1Co_15:3-4). Salvation is available to all "He who believes in Him is not condemned;..” (Joh_1:12; Joh_3:18; Joh_6:40; Joh_11:25; Joh_20:31; 1Jn_5:13) but it is based upon a condition, belief in Jesus the Christ “..you have been saved through faith,..” (Eph_2:8; 1Ti_4:10).

God loves us and demonstrated this when He sent His Son to die for our sins “..while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom_5:8; 1Pe_3:18) God desires all to come to faith : “..God our Savior, 24 who desires all men to be saved ..” (Eze_33:11; 1Ti_2:4) but He will not force anyone to believe.

We are all sinners “..for all have sinned..” (Rom_3:23) and in need of salvation. Only after God, the Holy Spirit, begins to work in the life of a person will they realize how guilty they are before God and see their need of a saviour. “..He will convict the world of sin..” (Joh_16:8; Joh_15:26). God has provided the way of our salvation in the person of Jesus Christ. We have spiritual blessings “in Christ” (Eph_1:3), our adoption is “through Jesus” (Eph_1:5), we are redeemed “through His Blood” (Eph_1:7) and we are sealed “in Him” (Eph_1:13). But as I said before God will not force anyone to believe, you must come to Jesus in faith of your own freed will. “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (Eph_1:13-14; Rom_10:8-10).

God is Love, this is what I see in scripture. From creation to redemption, Genesis to Revelation the overarching theme is LOVE. God's love for me, for mankind, this is what motivates me in prayer and to study His word. Because I love this great God I want to know Him and be known by Him. The message of the cross is the greatest news that we can share. To tell people of the cross, of God's love for them so they can repent and turn from their sins and come to Jesus for salvation.

So to answer the question, “What’s Love got to do with it? EVERYTHING!

In Christ
Dale
